Night Watcher Journal

When I became part of the Territorial Youth Council, I started attending the online Devotion of HOT - Youth San Pablo on September 8, 2020, and the Youth Ablaze online Bible Study on September 12, 2020.

When Primate Ricardo M. Alcaraz passed away on September 12, 2020, I noticed that the CCSM and On Fire Youth Facebook pages were temporarily inactive. International and local churches made announcements and tributes, but the main church remained silent. I sent a personal message to Dcn. Eli regarding the official announcement via Facebook page, and after a day or two, a publication was made. Likewise, I communicated with Lent regarding a tribute for the Primate. I also encouraged him to start an online Bible study, as other local churches were doing.

I don’t know if it was just me, but I felt that after the Primate’s death, everything seemed to decline, which grieved my heart. It felt like something was wrong. This was not the time to act like a defeated foe, but to rise up as warriors. When I found myself standing and raising the banner of the Diocese of Visayas in online youth activities, I began to realize why Fr. Nonoy had included me as part of the TYC Council. For such a time as this, there had to be someone to represent the church. Yes, we were in a period of mourning, but the work of the church should not stop. I started sending words of encouragement, including the series of prophecies given through the Primate, to uplift the spirits of my brothers and sisters in Christ.

On September 21, 2020, I called Fr. Nonoy to check on him while he was in a COVID facility recovering. We talked for almost 25 minutes and 19 seconds. He shared how he fought through his illness and how he was able to cope and recover. At one point, he cried, which broke my heart. I didn’t expect it, so I gently redirected our conversation. I told him that On Fire Youth was temporarily inactive, which bothered him. He said, he would encourage and uplift the youth.

At 9:35 that evening, he sent a message to the DOV Congress group chat, saying:

“Calling all Youths we are in the midst of war. Pray for Dcn Jobert and Dcn Heinz we are taking casualties. Time to stand our ground. Down to your knees, we will not just taking blow from the enemy we to fight back and not in defensive mode only.  MY ORDER OF BATTLE is counter offensive, search and destroy and show no mercy to the enemy. Give every fire power you’ve through prayer and obedience. We are God’s army. He is with us. Let get it on…”

On the same night, 11:13, Manna sent message if the On Fire Youth could have online intercession.  I agreed.  She asked when will be the best day to have it and I told her that it would be Tuesday or Friday.

“Raise the flag of the warrior church!”  was my words of encouragement for the youth.  After a series of consultations and agreements, we made an outline for our first night watch with the following schedule of shift:

These guidelines were based on prayer requests and revelations received during prayer time. As new revelations came, they were shared in the group chat to guide the next shift.

The youth intercessors who committed themselves to this mission were truly on fire. Revelations and visions were shared in the group, strengthening the prayer chain for weeks until the clergy and other members of the church recovered.
The core group of youth, led by Carlo, followed instructions received through revelation. They conducted prayer walks and held praise and worship in main streets, near hospitals, and in other places where they felt led to go.

For weeks, the youth intercessors prayed continuously, even in the early hours of the morning. We experienced both small and great victories. Along the way, we were reminded by God: “Do not touch My glory.” We remained grounded, recognizing that all glory belongs to Him.

When the Ladies Prayer Ministry learned about the youth’s night watch, they began covering us in prayer. Some of their core members even joined our schedule.

Over time, the night watch intercession opened its doors to all ages. Young men began rising up and organizing their own prayer schedules. Sunday school children were trained to pray. Elders joined at their convenience, and the clergy also established their own prayer times.
As the COVID-19 crisis subsided, the core group decided to pass on the baton of leadership. New intercessors were added, and schedules were adjusted to accommodate changing availability.

To continue the legacy of intercession, Dcn. Carlo established discipleship within the Youth Fellowship. The youth were divided into smaller groups to strengthen relationships, and a series of online teachings focused on becoming prayer warriors.
To this day, the On Fire Youth online intercession and night watch prayer continue. Whether many or few are present, they remain faithful.
