COLLECTING COINS

There is nothing special crossing the bridge everyday. The beauty of creation doesn’t change except the course of river and the structures near the riverbanks which are hazardous for living.

A certain woman while on board the tricycle going to her office caught her attention the brilliance of the running water and the waves of banana leaves. It looks likes, as if, it has something to hint. She was kind of bother because it was strange. Everything in that point of time were lively. She was sure that it was not out of hallucination because she knew that she’s physically fit and in good condition. Then she said to herself “What is it Lord?” She felt something in her heart that she can’t understand and there she was reminded of things that bothered her.

She was in a solitude place and doesn’t know why she was there. It was dry and unproductive place. She started exploring the place, hoping to meet somebody to talk with but she could found none. As she continue her journey, one by one, she met people passing her by and she doesn’t know where they came from because there were no houses in the land but she could glimpse buildings faraway.

The radiance of one peso coin caught her eyes. She happily picked it up one by one on her way and later on, started collecting five peso coins. When she looked around, people just passing by and don’t care what she was doing. She doesn’t know if she was visible to them because they were just come and go. The silver and gold coins were just on the pathway. You can’t notice it in the first glance unless you have brilliant eyes.

She kept on collecting those golden coins until she found more on the mound. She was so happy when she found it and she could not imagine how come she was sole who noticed and found it. The place was so open and what you do is very visible. She gathered golden coins on her bag when a certain man called her “Come on, we have to go”. She really felt bad and turned around but still her hands were on the golden coins. She answered “I have to bring these” “No. Leave it, we have to go now.” he replied. She felt sorry to herself but she quickly rose up and followed the man without anything in her hand.

She doesn’t know why she followed the man and leave the wealth she found. She never saw his face because she was following behind his back. What she knew was, when the man called her, her heart immediately responded though she was kind of annoyed and frustrated in leaving those golden coins. She has no reason to stay in that place.

A flood came when she was on her journey. She was not afraid nor dismayed but vigilant what will gonna happen. The water line was on her knees and it was muddy. When she was tracing the flood passing through, she was surprised because the muddy water turned to crystal water. The current of water was so fast and it changes the course of water as there were small waves. When she looked down, she saw sparkling coins. She can’t immediately get it because she has to wait for the water to change from muddy to crystal water because stones can be deceived by its brilliance. The weird thing was, she just can’t stooped down just to get the coins but she has to submerge though the water was just below her knees and she really has to wait for the clean water for her to be able to get the right coins.

Like what she observed in the solitude place, people were busy and don’t care of what she was doing. She kept on collecting golden coins but she preferred to collect two peso coins. She was enjoying doing it and when her hands were filled of coins, she said to herself, “Yes, this is sufficient to pay my debts.” She was so happy that she had more than enough to pay her debts but after she said it, a voice was heard saying, “Give it to her.” He was talking to her friend few meters away from her. “But Lord, it’s mine. I collected these coins. We both seen these but she doesn’t bother to get one and then you tell me to give it to her?” she complained. “Just give it to her” he replied.

She can’t understand why she needs to give the coins to her friend. For the second time, she has to give it up. At first, she was grumbling, she disagreed to the voice she heard but when the battle of her heart was over, she said, “You said it, so, I will.” With a deep breath, she handed over the coins she collected and she felt the joy in her heart after all.

The things that bother her until now: What is the meaning of the coins? Why she has to leave it and/or give it? Who is that man that she can’t resist his words?
